Over the past 12 days, members of our vibrant LMA community have not only shared great tidbits and insights for the year ahead, but also kindly given us a glimpse into the bright spots of their 2020s. As we wrap up another year of the Social & Digital Media SIG's 12 Days of Social Media, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to our contributors for their time, thoughtfulness and perspective as we head into a new year.

While each post had their own set of takeaways and we encourage you to revisit posts, take down notes and connect with the contributors on LinkedIn here are five standout insights:

  1. Legal marketers are extraordinarily resilient. Nearly all of the 12 Days of Social Media contributors noted how they had to adapt to the major shifts in the way the industry operates and how business was conducted in 2020. From learning new skills, to shifting to virtual client experiences, to embracing LMA's efforts to improve mental health awareness in law firms, LMA members boldly stepped up to the plate to help law firms and each other succeed.
  2. As a new year begins, LMA members are making the case for the evolution of the legal industry and doing things differently. While a COVID-19 vaccine promises a semblance of normalcy to return at some point in 2021, LMA members are focused on the best ways to connect with clients, which may continue to include a virtual/in-person hybrid model.
  3. Legal marketers are embracing social and digital media more than ever to meet audiences where they are. Video continues to be a favorite of social and digital media marketers and service providers as a vehicle to tell stories and gain attention for law firms. Channels like Instagram are on the rise, with legal marketers embracing creative ways to share programs and diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.
  4. Speaking of DEI, legal marketers are being called upon within not only law firms, but also within this community to fiercely advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion in all forms. LMA's D&I SIG and D&I Committee are both hard at work and will be an valuable resource as we continue to move these initiatives forward in 2021.
  5. Our fifth takeaway is a bit longer, but stick with us... it comes with an exciting and fun announcement:

LMA members are communicators. We're connectors. We enjoy the moments when we can be together in-person to share ideas, create solutions, celebrate wins, make connections and look ahead. Not being able to meet in person this past year has been difficult, and yet we've adapted "” as individuals and as an association. In 2020, LMA and its members came together and experienced heightened engagement and continued fellowship in new and creative ways. Over the course of the year, virtual town halls, an online annual conference and various other initiatives opened our eyes to an unmet need of creating a safe, welcoming space for members to connect together in a place where we already spend so much of our time.

As co-chairs of LMA's Social & Digital Media Shared Interest Group, and in partnership with LMA leadership, we are thrilled to announce the launch of the official LMA Facebook Group: for members, by members.

The goal? Create a welcoming and inclusive environment where members can easily engage with one another and help each other do what they do even better: helping lawyers, law firms and each other become the best professionals we can be. We also wanted to create a space that was a natural extension of your day "” less formal or intimidating than email or discussion boards can feel and on a platform that supports many different ways for members to interact and share ideas. A Facebook group open only to LMA members provides that safe space to easily tap into the wealth of information and experience available in our community.

We invite you to join the group today and we appreciate your patience as your membership is verified which should take no more than 1-2 business days. We also hope you feel inspired to invite colleagues and friends to the group who are also LMA members. The more who engage with this new online community, the more useful it will be to all!
